A-B-C is introducing a partition opener and inserter that solves the problems of handling lightweight chipboard partitions by using servo-drive technology to efficiently feed, open and place the partition into the shipping tray or case. The new servo-operated machine offers advantages when compared to mechanical and pneumatic systems, which can limit speed and flexibility. The Model 70 partition opener/ inserter’s Intelligent Control electronics provide continuous motion action from partition feed through opening and inserting, ensuring smooth operation and maximum line efficiency. This machine automatically opens and inserts lightweight chipboard partitions with 6, 12, 24 or 48 cells into RSC, HSC and Tablock cases, and half or full height trays, at speeds to 35 cases per minute. It is designed to link with A-B-C’s case erectors to provide a complete system for packagers who buy glass containers in bulk and may also run in tandem with A-B-C’s Model 65 tray maker, for packagers who wish to take advantage of the reduced corrugated and shipping costs of tray packaging.

The operation of the Model 70 is simple. Cases or trays are indexed into the machine on the integral conveyor, and accurately positioned under the partition guide funnels. The partition is securely gripped and opened, then lowered through the guide funnels into the case or tray. Machine functions are operated by programmable logic controller (PLC), and the color touchscreen display provides a clear and convenient control station. Machine setup and changeover, operating reports, and statistics are easily accessed to provide complete production data.
